Co-op brand coffee switches to Fair Trade

As of today all Co-op brand coffee is being switched to Fairtrade. That's great news for coffee growers and fantastic news for coffee lovers.

Whether ground or instant is your coffee of choice, you can now truly enjoy it, knowing your enjoyment hasn't been subsidised by growers who can't even afford to buy the basics they need to survive.

Overnight, the Co-op's conversion to 100 per cent Fairtrade will boost the value of the UK Fairtrade coffee market by 15 % or £4m, returning a total of £¾ million to growers.

Overnight the move will increase sales of Fairtrade coffee sold in the UK by 15% and one in three coffee products we sell will be Fairtrade.

The switch means –

· the total value of all Fairtrade coffee sold in Co-op stores will triple to almost £6.5m
· the sales of Fairtrade instant coffee will quadruple
· almost 90% of all the ground coffee we sell will be Fairtrade
